A study from the Ginty lab revealed a role for the gene Piezo2 in the development of sensory neurons responsible for detecting gentle touch.

The mechanosensitive ion channel Piezo2 is required for the transcriptional and structural maturation of the primary sensory neurons that detect gentle touch and that Piezo2-dependent genes influence touch-sensory neuron innervation patterns.
